2015/2016 Report

Firstly, I would like to thank the Hectorville Cricket Club for giving me this wonderful opportunity to coach and lead this great club.

The season for the A grade was quite like a rollercoaster ride with a few important wins amongst some unfortunate losses. Some of our key players were unavailable for a majority of the season mainly due to unforeseen injuries & work commitments. We had a young developing squad this season and the performances the team made on the field made for some very close matches. A few dropped catches and an element of bad luck meant that we ended up winning only 3 games. There were quite a  number of good performances by both bowlers and batsmen, though sometimes the  balance of the game did not fall in our favour. The A grade again did well in the 20/20 competition to reach the semi-finals.

The B grade led by veteran Gary Dwiar had a mixed season and were unlucky to miss out on finals. Billy Leo’s boys in the C grade did exceptionally well to finish top in the league table. The D grade under the guidance of Sampath Wijesinghe and Jaban Somerville produced some encouraging performances, seeing a winning streak of 7 games at the end of the season. They will be looking to build on the success in the coming season.

This season was a very successful one for the junior section. Our under 11’s finished top in the league and won the Grand Final. The Under 15s made the semi-finals.  Junior Coach Durand De Zylva and Junior Coordinator Richard Thom did a wonderful job. It was encouraging to see several parents taking more active roles. However more qualified coaching staff and managers are required to assist the club in its aim to improve the junior section.

Several young players are beginning to shine and have made significant improvements and advances over the course of the season. Player fitness, which is very important if you want to be the best, will be of prime importance in our approach for the next season. Taking accountability at training will be another aspect.

I would like to thank Bill and the committee, all captains, players and their families and everyone else from the club for their great support.

Yours faithfully,
